A week ahead of the long awaited multiplayer “beta”, DICE has announced that after its October 25th release, Battlefield 3 will indeed see some Modern Warfare-style downloadable content. And like the agreement through 2012 between Activision and Microsoft, they’ve struck a timed exclusivity deal with Sony.

If you pre-order BF3‘s Limited Edition upgrade, you know full well that the “Back to Karkand” pack of Battlefield 2 map remakes is being offered as a freebie when it launches. Don’t pre-order, though, and you’ll likely be coughing up some extra dough.

Either way, gamers will be looking a period of timed exclusivity for Back to Karkand, and “all full-blown upcoming expansion packs for the game”, on PSN. How long of a window? An entire week. To clear up confusion, the studio posted the following note: “Whatever the release date will be, PS3 owners will be able to download/buy and play one week early. “

EA/DICE hasn’t yet confirmed a release date (or price) for Karkand — other than “winter 2011” — and no other expansions have been announced.
